Barcamp "Unconference" This Saturday Gives Platform to Entrepreneurs

BarcampICR #2: A creativity unconference where anything goes and everyone can present at Vault on Sat, March 3rd
Local entrepreneurs, creatives, makers and doers will present what they care most about at a conference where the featured speakers are the attendees

(Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Iowa) - This Saturday, entrepreneurs, creatives, makers and doers (anyone who is passionate about just about anything) from the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids region are coming to BarcampICR, an unconference where the attendees are the featured speakers. The event will be be held Saturday, March 3rd from 9am to 4:30pm at Vault Coworking & Collaboration Space and Corridor CoWorks Conference Center on the 5th and 6th floors of the Guaranty Bank Building (222 3rd Street SE, at the corner of 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue) in downtown Cedar Rapids.

The conference invites everyone with a passion to bring a presentation or discussion topic to the event. Attendees presenting will be provided a room, a projector, a friendly audience and 30 minutes to talk about whatever they like. It's almost anything goes - the only rule is that presenters must talk about something they are passionate about, and not give a sales pitch. 

Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Vault Coworking & Collaboration Space:

  • 9AM Doors Open
  • 9:30AM Opening Session & Presentation Sign-up 
  • 10:30AM – Noon: Sessions/presentations/discussions/talks (30min sessions going concurrently in multiple rooms w/ 15min breaks)
  • 12PM: Lunch 
  • 1-4:15PM: Sessions/presentations/discussions/talks (30min sessions going concurrently in multiple rooms w/ 15min breaks)
  • 4:15PM Closing Session
  • 4:30PM Program End & Happy Hour at White Star Ale House

The producers of this event are members of the ICCReatives.us website who have formed a grassroots group to bring BarcampICR to our region. The cost to attend is just $5.00, which includes a light breakfast and lunch. The low registration fee is designed to make this event easily accessible for all entrepreneurs and creatives and is only possible through the generous support of local sponsors dedicated to growing the creative community in Eastern Iowa. The leading sponsors for BarcampICR #2 are the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, CramerDev, Knowledge Meridian, iQuest CoLab, Altman & Sons and deNovo Alternative Marketing. 

Conference organizers are working to encourage participants from all walks of life, with the commonality that attendees are all passionate about something, whether as part of their job, a community interest, an creative endeavor or an entrepreneurial venture.  

"We have all kinds of fascinating people coming to Barcamp on Saturday! We’ve got registrations from teachers, engineers, developers, designers, film makers, marketers and even an Abe Lincoln impersonator," said conference organizer Michal Eynon-Lynch.  "We want anyone and everyone to come share what they’re passionate about with each other, make connections with the diverse creative community we have here and get inspired."

People interested in attending can register at barcampicr.com. The entrance fee is just $5 and includes breakfast, lunch, a t-shirt and a free photobooth. All attendees are encouraged to bring their own travel mug to help us keep the event eco-friendly. 

ICCReatives.us is a website that showcases and connects the creative community in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids region. Sign-up is quick, free and open to anyone who identifies as a creative with ties to the area. 

Barcamp conferences are held in entrepreneurial cities all over the world. The first of its kind was produced in Palo Alto, CA within the technology community. 

ICR is an acronym/endearing nickname for the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids region-a place so friendly, the cities share the ‘C’.
