Careful Out There, Iowa City; It Could Be a Slippery Day
Roads could be slippery with off and on snow and temperatures hovering around freezing this afternoon.

Iowa City got a reminder this morning that it is, in fact, winter. Burly snowflakes floated down from the sky giving the impression at first glance, this could be the big one. However, keeping with the theme of the season, it isn't expected to amount to much here.
The National Weather Service is predicting occasional snow with temperature falling to around 33 degrees by 4 p.m. in Iowa City. But sorry kids, they say total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

In central Iowa and beyond they are getting a bit more of the white stuff, and it is causing road problems. Take a look at the National Weather Service’s radar, and you’ll get an idea of what we’re getting — and for what you’re in for if you are heading that way: Up to eight inches of snow, wsith several inches now on the ground and falling.
Already, jackknifed semi trucks and vehicles are have slid off roadways, including Interstate 80, which the Des Moines Register reports is closed in western Iowa near Avoca. The left lane is blocked from Exit 40 (U.S. highway 59) to Exit 46 (County Road M47) due to a semitrailer truck accident, the Register reports.
The snow is blinding, so be careful. The is predicting up to 10 inches in southwest Iowa, with more than two inches already on the ground by early this morning. The snowfall is expected to end around midnight.
