Help provide for the hungry in the community. The Crisis Center of Johnson County is currently seeking volunteers to assist families in need in its Food Bank program. Because about 200 volunteers are needed a week to distribute food, many positions are available. Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply, especially those who speak Spanish.
Applications are available online at The Crisis Center’s website, jccrisiscenter.org and will be accepted via mail, fax or in person until Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Alternatively you can call 319-351-0128 to schedule an interview and submit the completed application at that time. In addition to an application, volunteers must complete four hours of training and commit to a weekly three-hour shift for a minimum of six months.
The Food Bank provides over 20,000 pounds of food each week to more than 800 families in Johnson County. “Volunteers are the heart of the organization,” said Stefanie Bell, Food Bank Coordinator. Bell added that "being a volunteer is a great way to help those in need." The Crisis Center's positive, supporting community gives volunteers the opportunity to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Work experience and self-confidence are among many other benefits volunteers gain through the Food Bank Program.
If you have any questions about the Food Bank program or becoming a volunteer, please email stefanie.bell@jccrisiscenter.org or call Stefanie Bell at (319) 351-0128.
