Urbandale Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Iowa City Police Officer Finally Posts Bond

Branden Plummer has requested a speedy trial, which could come in February.

An Urbandale man charged with attempted murder of an Iowa City police officer has posted bond nearly one month after his arrest.

According to an Iowa Courts Online today, Tuesday, Branden Plummer, 20, a student from Urbandale, posted a $100,000 cash bond, and the court issued an "order for discharge of defendant upon bail."

Plummer, who has pleaded not guilty, has requested a speedy trial. According to Iowa Courts Online, he has a pretrial conference set for 11 a.m. on Feb. 10 and a jury trial at 9 a.m. on Feb. 21.

According to police, Plummer got into a scuffle with Iowa City police Sgt. Brian Krei in the early morning hours of Nov. 18. During the scuffle, Plummer applied a chokehold to Krei and refused to let go, according to police. Krei briefly lost consciousness, but has since returned to work, according to police.

Plummer eventually ran from the scene, and wasn't identified until Nov. 30 based on a CrimeStoppers tip. He was charged with attempted murder, a class B felony, which carries up to a 25 year prison sentence; later, a charge of willful injury, a class D felony, was added.

Plummer is no longer listed in the University of Iowa directory and he does not have a listed phone number.
