Hawks Batter Tech, Iowa State Edges No. Iowa

Lightning delays Hawkeye victory in season opener; late score sends Cyclones past Panthers. Fans can now submit ideas for new Cy-Hawk Trophy.

Football is back. Iowa and Iowa State each won home openers on Saturday, while Northern Iowa fell to the Cyclones. 

In Iowa City, officials stopped the game due to lightning toward the end of the third quarter for nearly an hour and a half, but the soaked Hawkeyes already had the contest well in hand. Iowa outscored the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 34-7 in the game at Kinnick Stadium.

In Ames, the Cyclones prevailed in a come-from-behind win on a late touchdown. Steele Jantz scored on a one-yard run with 40 seconds left to give Iowa State a 20-19 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday night.

Entries must be submitted through the website and will be taken through the end of September.
