Iowa City Police Board Member Steps Down "Immediately"

Peter Jochimsen has resigned his position on the Police Citizen Review Board, effectively immediately.

Jochimsen notified City Council of his decision by email this afternoon (March 20).

"I have been a member of the Police Citizens Review Board for some time now, and find that I am unable, in good conscience, to continue serving," Jochimsen wrote. "Please accept this notice as my request to resign from that position, immediately. Thank you."

Jochimsen replaced Vershawn Young in May 2010. Jochimsen is an emeritus professor of surgery at .

Applications to fill the position must be submitted by April 25.
