Media Release

Parents who are looking for fun, active, and creative Spring Break programs for their children are encouraged to sign up for the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department's annual Spring Break Camps, scheduled Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22. A different camp will be held each day at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center at 220 S. Gilbert Street in Iowa City for youth in grades K-6. Cost of each camp is $40 per day for Iowa City residents and $45 per day for non-residents. Parents or guardians may register their child for whatever sessions best suits his or her needs and interests -- one day, all five days, or anything in between.

This year's day camp themes include:
Monday, March 18: "Capture the Moment" (photography)
Tuesday, March 19: "Let's Make a Mess" (art: pottery, clay, and more)
Wednesday, March 20: "Spring Training" (outdoor sports)
Thursday, March 21: "Behind the Scenes" (theatre and acting)
Friday, March 22: "Gardening 101" (gardening and soil)

Camp field trips and special visitors are planned as part of the Spring Break Camp experience, and swimming will round out each day for all participants. Camps will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and optional supervised play is available to camp-goers from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m., at no additional cost.

Registration begins March 7. Registration forms, which include full descriptions of camps and other information, are available at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, the Mercer/Scanlon facility at 2701 Bradford Drive, or online at www.icgov.org/pr.
