Iowa City Weather Alert: Iowa City in Winter Weather Advisory Today
Look out for some snow today during the day according to the National Weather Service as Winter Storm Rocky rolls through.

As far as Rockies go, this Winter Storm Rocky seems more like Bullwinkle's friend than the boxer.
At least as far as Iowa is concerned.
But still, less than a week after anticlimatic Winter Storm Q visited us, another winter storm is set to rumble through the area today and tomorrow. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at noon today and running through 6 a.m. on Wednesday for counties including Johnson

Based on the snowfall projections, Iowa City looks to be on the outer edge of a heavier band of snow, so snow fall totals could be lesser than our southeastern brethren. Still, this could include some blowing snow, so even if the snow totals aren't high, drive carefully this afternoon and evening:

* TIMING...ACCUMULATING SNOW SPREADING ACROSS THE AREA AFTER NOON.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...3 TO 6 INCHES.
* WINDS...NORTHEAST 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.
* VISIBILITIES...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES IN RURAL AND OPEN AREAS TO A HALF MILE AT TIMES.
* TEMPERATURES...IN THE LOWER 30S.
IMPACTS...TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS THIS AFTERNOON DUE TO SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW AND CONTINUE TONIGHT.
Weather Underground has a similar prediction, with snow continuing from today through Wednesday, but then partly sunny conditions the rest of the week with highs in the mid to low 30s.
