Iowa City Weather Alert: Winter Storm Warning Declared Until Noon Wednesday as Winter Storm Rocky Approaches

The Winter Storm dubbed Rocky by the Weather Channel continues to drop heavy snow as it heads southeast through Iowa.

Even though the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area have not received much snow to up to this point, due to being in a dry air donut hole in the middle of the storm the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has nontheless declared a winter storm warning for counties including Johnson, set to last until noon Wednesday.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST WEDNESDAY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN QUAD CITIES HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST WEDNESDAY.

* SNOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE AREA INTO TONIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...5 TO 8 INCHES

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...FREEZING DRIZZLE COULD PRODUCE A GLAZE OF ICE LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING OVER NORTHEAST ILLINOIS.

* WINDS...NORTHEAST 15 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES IN RURAL AND OPEN AREAS TO A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL WILL HAZARDOUS DUE TO SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.
