Police: Coralville Man Faces Felony After Having Sex With 14-Year-Old Runaway Girl

The man who let the runaway girl stay with him for several days. She was reported missing from Detroit, Mich.


A Coralville man is facing serious criminal charges including felony sexual abuse after allegedly harboring and having sexual abuse on multiple occassions with a runaway 14-year-old girl.

According to criminal complaints, the police issued a search warrant at the Coralville residence of Juan Sixto De La Cruz, 20, after an informant told authorities that a 14-year-old runaway reported missing from her home in Michigan was staying there.

When the police executed the search warrant on Feb. 5th at 11:00 a.m. they found both the girl and De La Cruz in the residence. After questioning, the girl said she had had sexual intercourse with De La Cruz on at least five different occassions.

The girl's parent had filed a missing person complaint with the Detroit Police Department on Jan. 23.

De La Cruz was charged with harboring a runaway, an aggravated misdemeanor, and third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C Felony. He is currently being held in the Muscatine County Jail on $30,000 bail.
