University of Iowa Releases Costs on Search for New Liberal Arts Dean

University of Iowa provided details of its expenses during the search for a new dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The search for a new dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at University of Iowa topped $40,000, according to information provided by the university in response to a records request.

The total expense of the search was $43,060.73, which included $11,175.48 for meals; $15,461.07 for travel; $6,951.19 for hotels; and $9,472.99 for miscellaneous expenses including advertising, supplies and telephone, according to records from .

, currently a professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University of South Carolina, was selected as the dean at the conclusion of the search in May. Djalali will officially take over on Aug. 15 at an annual salary of $325,000.

He was one of three final candidates brought to campus for two-day interviews.

Djalali will replace Linda Maxson, who served as dean for 15 years. Executive Associate Dean Raul Curto is serving as interim dean from July 1 to Aug. 14.
