City Of Johnston: USING FIREWORKS INSIDE CITY LIMITS IS PROHIBITED

As you celebrate the New Year, the City of Johnston reminds residents it is illegal to discharge fireworks within Johnston city limits. Disregarding the fireworks ordinance is a violation and is punishable by a fine of up to $500 per violation. 

Reports can be made by calling the non-emergency number at 515-278-2345. Please provide an address when reporting your concern. For questions about the local fireworks ordinance, please contact Fire Marshal Craig Ver Huel at 515-251-7692 or email.

Fireworks UseJohnston prohibits the use of fireworks within the city limits. Violators could face a fine of up to $500 per violation. (City Code Chapter 41.12)

If fireworks are illegally discharged on private property, the property owner can be held responsible for sponsoring the gathering and associated fireworks activities. (City Code Chapter 40.07(1)(H))
