Johnston Middle School Show Choirs Kick-Off Competitions This Week

The Johnston Middle School Show Choirs will kick-off their competition season this weekend.

The eighth-grade choir Impact will attend competition in Waukee Friday, while ninth-graders in Sound Advice will perform in Waukee Saturday.

IMPACT is the 8^th grade show choir at Johnston Middle School.  

IMPACT has 63 members with a 14 member combo and a tech crew of 5. The group rehearses at 7 a.m. two to three mornings a week. 

IMPACT students are involved in multiple activities such as athletics, band, church groups, dance team, and numerous other activities.

They are directed by Laura Fog, choreographed by Erica Ireland, and the show band is directed by Blake Schlawin. 

This year’s show includes, All of the Above, soloist: Will Kaptain; Waiting for a Star to Fall, soloist: Ellie Roquet & Maraena Black; Footprints in the Sand, soloists: Jared Peterson & Jillian Gabby; and Swing Medley, soloist: Donald Gee.

Sound Advice is an auditioned group of 9th graders from Johnston Middle School. 

The ensemble rehearses before school at 7 a.m. and some weekends.

Sound Advice is an enthusiastic group of young people who are involved in multiple activites such as athletics, band, church groups, dance team, and numerous other activities. 

They are directed by Hannah Ryan, accompanied by Blake Schlawin and choreographed by Caroline Byrd, Molly McConnell & Jessie Jo Schnack.

Choir selections are: "Stronger", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Someone to Fall Back On", "Runaway Baby", and "Alive!"
