Lawson Elementary Pack 29 Dedicates Flag at Johnston Public Library

The flag will be displayed in an engraved box purchased by the Pack.

A special flag will be displayed at the Johnston Public Library beginning on Monday.

Lawson Elementary Cub Scout Pack 29, along with the library, will host a dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the library for a flag once flown during an operation in Afghanistan.

Former pack leader, Lt. Col. John Perkins donated the flag, while the Pack purchased an engraved box for the flag to be showcased.

In the spring of 2011, the 2nd Brigade, 34th Infantry Division, in partnership with the Afghan National Army, launched a major operation, “Operation Bullwhip”, into the Galuch Valley, Logman Province, in eastern Afghanistan, in order to secure the local population from anti-Afghan forces.

“Operation Bullwhip”, supported by supplies from the 334th Brigade Support Battalion, was successful and a new combat outpost was established in the Galuch Valley.

This flag was carried by the Soldiers of Company A, 334th Brigade Support Battalion, from Johnston, Iowa, on a 20 hour mission to deliver critical fortification material to the new combat outpost. 

The dedication ceremony, which will be in the library's large meeting room, is free and open to the public. Stop by, meet Lt. Col. Perkins, pack members and see the library materials on patriotism.
