Report: Johnston High School Receives Impressive Ranking from National Magazine
Johnston High School is one of the best in Iowa, according to a U.S. News and World Report analysis. The superintendent credits teachers, parents and students for the ranking.

Johnston High School stands out among the high schools around Iowa.
Johnston ranks as the No. 12 high school in Iowa, and No. 1,813 in the country, according to the latest U.S. News and World Report analysis of the nations best high schools.
The student body is 87 percent proficient in reading and 89 proficient in math.

Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® course work and exams. The AP® participation rate at Johnston Senior High School is 22 percent. The student body makeup is 53 percent male and 47 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 13 percent.
In Iowa, the cream of the crop is Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. The school came in at No. 550 in the nation. Decorah came in as the No. 2 school.

“This ranking is yet another quality indicator of the level of education offered in Johnston schools,” Superintendent Clay Guthmiller said on the school district website. “From our pre-kindergarten programs to our Advanced Placement classes, our students are exceeding the norm and raising the standard of quality education in central Iowa.
“We credit the dedication and hard work of our teachers, the involvement of our parents, and the determination of our students for this ranking,” Guthmiller said. “While we continue to strive for greater achievement, we are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our students.”
