Be Careful Out There: Marion Police To Step Up Traffic Enforcement Thanksgiving Week
The focus of the effort, which is part of the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau, will be on safety belt violations, impaired drivers and other moving violations.

Press release from Marion police chief Harry Daugherty:
The Marion Police Department in conjunction with the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau wilt be taking part in Iowa’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) from Monday November 19th - Sunday November 25th.
This one week enhanced enforcement period with additional officers on duty be focused on safety belt violations, impaired drivers and other moving violations.
This program combines public information efforts with those of local law enforcement communities geared at convincing ail motorists ofthe importance of buckling up.
As of November 1st with over 37% of this year’s 299 fatalities having been determined not to have been wearing seat belts, it’s clear that buckling up increases your odds in surviving a major crash.
