Cedar Rapids Police Investigating Attempted Abduction Report

Police received a report that a man attempted to coax a 17-year-old girl to his car and then chased her down 12th Avenue SE on Wednesday morning.

Cedar Rapids police are investigating a reported abduction attempt on Wednesday morning.

A man attempted to coax a 17-year-old girl to his car and then chased her down 12th Avenue SE on Wednesday morning, police say. She got away.

Police received a report that a 17-year old girl was walking in the 500 block of 12 Avenue SE at 11:20 a.m. when she saw a gray vehicle parked on 12 Avenue.

The driver was a black male in his 30’s with the window down, according to police. He attempted to talk to the girl and get her to come to his car. When she ignored him, he got out of the vehicle and began to chase her.

She ran westbound on 12 Avenue SE. He soon returned to his car and left. He was wearing blue jeans and a coat of unknown color, and a scarred or pock marked face.

He seemed to have an accent of some kind, possibly an African accent, according to police. She was not hurt.
