Marion Police: Car Chase Leads to Crash, Hospital and Pending Charges for 14-Year-Old

A 14-year-old boy out for a drive in the early morning hours on Sunday in Marion wound up in the hospital and likely criminal charges after refusing to stop for police.

Charges are pending for a 14-year-old boy who Marion Police said led them on a car chase early Sunday morning.

A Marion Police officer tried to stop the vehicle driven by the unnamed boy when they saw it driving over a curb and on to a sidewalk at around 1:28 a.m. on Sunday near the 1200 block of Seventh Avenue, according to a news release from the Marion Police Department.

The boy refused to stop and the chase was on.

Authorities caught up with the vehicle on Highway 151 near the intersection of Linn-Jones Road when the driver lost control. The teen was the only person in the vehicle.

He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The Marion Police Department was assisted by the Linn and Jones County Sheriff's Office and the Anamosa Poiice Department.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending at this time, according to the statement.
