Christmas Eve Car Accident Hospitalizes 82-Year-Old and 77-Year-Old Women

A two-vehicle crash sent two to the hospital on Christmas Eve with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred late in the morning on Christmas Eve, Monday.

Authorities from multiple departments were dispatched at about 11:51 am. on Monday, Dec. 24 to W35 about a half mile north of D62 (Betty’s Grove Road north of Walker Road.

According to a statement from Linn County Sheriff's Office, Patricia Daringer, 82, of Cedar Rapids was driving southbound when she lost control on the slippery road surface. The vehicle spun across the center line and collided head on with a northbound vehicle driven by Douglas Chester, 57, of Strawberry point.

Chester's passenger Barbara Chester, 77, of Cedar Rapids, and Daringer were both transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.
