Marion Christmas in the Park Set for Early December

The 19th annual Christmas in the Park celebration is scheduled for Dec. 2, with help from the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

This year's Christmas in the Park celebration features, for the first time, the Peppermint Walk, where more than 20 uptown businesses will have treats.

"It is a geat family event," said Rachel Krug, director of member services at the Marion Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the event.

The family event takes place in City Square Park on Dec. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. It starts off with Mr. and Mrs. Claus rolling into town by firetruck.

Additionally, there will be horse-drawn carriage rides, live music by the Marion Big Band, hot cocoa and popcorn for all attendees, activities and the traditional lighting of the community peace tree by Marion Mayor Paul Rehn.

Residents are also encouraged to donate hats, clothes and blankets for needy families in the area. The items will be distributed by the Marion Holiday Giving Project, through the .
