City Council Passes Sign Ordinance Amendment
During Thursday night's Marion City Council Meeting, the council voted to approve an amendment to the signs ordinance outlaws box signs and pole signs.

Business box and pole signs deemed by the council, will no longer be built on Seventh Avenue.
Thursday night's Marion City Council brought the passing of an amendment to the sign ordinance, in an effort to slowly replace "crappy" signs that are prevalent along Seventh Avenue.
But slowly is the key word here, as the ordinance does not require business owners to immediately replace their box and pole signs.

Business owners with the effected signs can keep and maintain their signs for as long as they want. It is only when they replace the signs do they have to comply with the new rules.
David Hockett, Marion assistant planing and development director said it will take a very long time for Marion to see a difference. In fact, when asked when he sees the project will be fully implemented, he grinned.
