City Council to Give Last Consideration on Sign Amendment

The sign ordinance will be given a final consideration at tonight's Marion City Council Meeting.

The Marion City Council will decide the fate of the  tonight at 5:30 p.m., which could change the face of much of Seventh Avenue.

The sign ordinance outlaws new box signs and pole signs. Box signs are large backlight signs attached to a building while the latter are advertisments affixed to a tall pole.

The idea behind the ordinance is to make Seventh Avenue more attractive. In a previous interview with Marion Patch, Marion City Council Member Kay Lammers explained her distaste for the signs

"It's crappy and cluttered. There is no rhyme or reason to it. My view is to make it more consistant, to clean it up."

Though there is contention over whether businesses will be able to afford signs approved under the ordinance.
