Construction on South 11th Street in Marion to End Around Thanksgiving

The construction project will update the sewer and drain system, and expand pedestrian walkways.

The intersection of South 11th Street and Grand Avenue, which has been closed to traffic due to construction, should be re-opened around Thanksgiving, the project manager said.

Maryann Shinrock, assistant city engineer for the City of Marion, said the construction is the first part in a six-stage project to update South 11th Street.

Shinrock said South 11th Street would remain open through the winter, with the latter phases of construction slated to begin in the spring. The project would re-work 11th Street from north of Medowview Drive to north of F Avenue.

The project's aim is to improve the storm and sewer drains. It will also add new crosswalks at the corner of Grand Avenue and South 11th Street, an eight-foot bike and pedestrian path on the west side of the street and a five-foot pedestrian path to the east.
