'Emergency Need for Blood': Iowa Red Cross Blood Supplies Running Lower than Expected
A slow June has local Red Cross officials urgently seeking more blood donations.

The Red Cross of Great Iowa has issued an emergency call for blood after falling short of its June donation goals.
"Blood and platelet donors of all blood types are needed. Almost 50,000 fewer donations were made during June than expected." reads the alert on the Red Cross of Great Iowa website.
Forrest Saunders of KCRG reported on the call, and spoke with a Red Cross official:
Officials said Tuesday their stockpile has dipped 10% because summer donations aren't keeping up with demand. They said summers are typically slow because people are busy with vacations and some of their biggest donors-- college and high school students, are on break.
"We are requesting an urgent appeal for anyone with any type of blood to come out, take an hour of your time, and donate blood for the patients in the hospitals,” said Danielle Grab, with The American Red Cross.
