UPDATE: Victim Identified in Fatal Crash; 2-Year-Old in Critical Condition; Charges Pending

Marion Police, Linn County Sheriff's and other agencies responded to the fatal two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning north of Central City.

Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

Linn County Sheriff's say Rachel Hope Denny, 26, of Coggon, died at the scene, and her 2-year-old daughter, Izebella, is in critical condition at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Charges are pending against Brandon Lynn Schaul, 25, of Cedar Rapids, who was driving the striking vehicle.

One person is dead, and a young child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning north of Central City. 

Marion Police, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Police, Center Point Ambulance, Life Guard Air Ambulance, Central City Ambulance, Central City Fire Department, and the Coggon Fire Department responded at 12:46 a.m. on Saturday on Highway 13 just north of Central City at Valley Farm Road, according to a statement from Linn County Sheriff's, which is continuing the investigation.

A Dodge minivan and Chevy truck were involved in the collision. The driver of the truck was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital with what the statement called non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger in the van, a young child, was flown by air ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital and then to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with life threatening injuries.  

The names are not being released pending notification of family.
