Right now, the Marion Library is offering both opportunities through its new reading program for adults. This marks the first year staff has held the program during winter, though library volunteers regularly offer an adult summer reading program.

The scent of orange rolls wafts from the kitchen, past the coffee pot, into an open seating area. Handmade ceramic mugs, paper journals, and jugs of honey are strewn on shelves. Lighthearted conversation can be heard at the register, near rows of cupcakes and kolaches.
This is a typical scene at The Kettel House Bakery and Café, a spot for enjoying coffee, lunch, and pastries near the heart of downtown Marion.
Marion Public Library Director Doug Raber presented a report on the library's past and future at the recent Marion City Council meeting. City Councillors also approved payment of a slew of bills totaling roughly $1.5 million.

Update: Man Dies in Linn County Truck-Pedestrian Collision
Authorities say Charles Slaughter, 63, of Hiawatha, has died after being struck by a truck last week. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on Center Point Road just north of Blairs Ferry Road.
