Right now, the Marion Library is offering both opportunities through its new reading program for adults. This marks the first year staff has held the program during winter, though library volunteers regularly offer an adult summer reading program.

Love Letter Cookies and Local Charm at Marion's Kettel House Bakery and Café

The scent of orange rolls wafts from the kitchen, past the coffee pot, into an open seating area. Handmade ceramic mugs, paper journals, and jugs of honey are strewn on shelves. Lighthearted conversation can be heard at the register, near rows of cupcakes and kolaches.

This is a typical scene at The Kettel House Bakery and Café, a spot for enjoying coffee, lunch, and pastries near the heart of downtown Marion.

Marion Public Library Director Doug Raber presented a report on the library's past and future at the recent Marion City Council meeting. City Councillors also approved payment of a slew of bills totaling roughly $1.5 million.

Linn County Supervisors Verify Petition for Public Vote on Casino

More than 16,000 signatures were gathered by the Vote Yes Linn County group, which supports building a casino. Of those, 15,491 were verified, which was still 3,600 more than required for a public vote.

Felony Charges Filed Against Teen Involved in I-380 Crash That Left Marion Woman Dead

Chase Goers, 17, of Cedar Rapids, faces two vehicular homicide charges for his role in a fatal wreck that left Kelley McLaren dead. Goers was driving the wrong way on Interstate 380, police say.

Police are seeking the public's help in finding Jacob Aaron Schultz, who was last seen on Monday morning.

Marion Hy-Vee employee Lee Neverman spearheaded an all Marion Hy-Vee video parody production of the worldwide phenomenon. The video has since garnered several thousand hits on YouTube, and deservedly so, check out Neverman's singing-while-shuffling backwards skills.

Update: Man Dies in Linn County Truck-Pedestrian Collision

Authorities say Charles Slaughter, 63, of Hiawatha, has died after being struck by a truck last week. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on Center Point Road just north of Blairs Ferry Road.
