BillyLee Janey, Civil War Exhibit and McGowan House Hearing: Five Essential Events This Week in Marion
Who said there's nothing to do in Marion?

1. Planning for Your Future: The School District is hosting its annual career fair at Marion High School.
On Tuesday at 6 p.m., high school students from Lisbon, Mount Vernon, Springville, , Alburnett, Cedar Rapids, Central City, College Community, North Linn and Center Point-Urbana High School will be attending the the fair. More than 30 employers and 14 higher education institutions will be represented.
2. Marion City Council Work Session and Formal Meeting: The Marion City Council will be holding public hearings on two of Marion’s most contested issues: streets and sewer renovations.

The council will also hold a hearing on the use of the McGowan house, an uptown Marion property given to the city that may soon become an arts and crafts store. The work session will take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. and the formal session will be held at 7 p.m., both on Thursday.
3. Civil War Exhibit Premiere: This Thursday at 5 p.m., the will be holding a reception for their brand new exhibit, entitled, "More than Any: Iowa in the American Civil War." The exhibit is a collection of more than 300 photographs, artifacts and documents that all tell the story of highly decorated Iowa Civil War veterans.

4. March Coffeehouse Night: This Friday at 6:30 p.m., the Marion Arts Council will be holding another coffeehouse night.
Friday’s event will turn into an intimate coffeehouse atmosphere, and will feature music from Sharon Bousquet and Phoenix Jordan, two new age/folk singers from Fairfield. Admission is free, and beverage and snacks from will be for sale.
5. The BillyLee Janey Band: The blues group The BillyLee Janey Band will be performing at the this Friday at 7 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. Cover is $5 and wine, beer, Italian soda, juice and appetizer plates are available for purchase.
