Flooding Triggers Local Disaster Declaration in Linn County

From Linn County:

Board of Supervisors Approves Local Disaster Declaration

The Linn County Board of Supervisors today approved a local disaster declaration triggered by flash flooding that occurred in Linn County on May 29, 2013 and the rising Cedar River levels.

The local disaster declaration will allow for the expenditure of emergency funds, the invoking of mutual aid agreements, and applying to the State of Iowa for assistance. The Board of Supervisors also implemented an operational structure for the Board to oversee County operations while the local disaster declaration is activated.

Each member of the Board of Supervisors is now assigned to a specific area of County government and is authorized to make decisions on behalf of the Board of Supervisors for that area if the situation requires an immediate decision and does not allow enough time for the Board to meet and deliberate.

With the current projected crest of the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids at 19.9 feet on Sunday, June 2, Linn County does not anticipate an interruption in service at any County buildings. However, Linn County is taking precautionary measures. The Board of Supervisors also set meetings for Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2 at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days to discuss issues related to this event and to take action as needed.
