Will RAGBRAI XL Pass Through Marion?

RAGBRAI has announced that it will make its first stop in Cedar Rapids in 22 years. And, the next night it's on to Anamosa. Will the route take riders through Marion?

The famed seven-day Iowa bike ride called RAGBRAI will be making stop in Cedar Rapids in 22 years.

This makes some riders in the Cedar Rapids - Marion Road Hogs bike group wonder: Since there will be a stop in Cedar Rapids and another in Anamosa right after, will bikers be riding through Marion?

Kathy Carstens, organizer of the Marion - Cedar Rapids Road Hogs, said there’s no way to know until the organizers of the race announce the route, which won’t happen for another couple months.

"We think it is great," she said, speaking for the Road Hogs and the 100 participants from the group that will likely attend. "We can’t imagine it after it went to Coralville last year."

RAGBRAI doesn't begin until July 22. At the time of the writing of this, the ride is 172 days, eight hours, 29 minutes and 55 seconds away, according to RAGBRAI's official website.

Like the organizers, Carstens and her group have been counting the hours.

In fact, their weekly rides revolve around RAGBRAI. Their practices increase in length and strenuousness, incrementally leading up to the ride.

But, just after after the ride that stretchers across the state of Iowa, they’ll be taking a group picnic to Minnesota to rest their presumably sore muscles.
