Kids at Marion Independent's Emerson Elementary to Receive 175 Bike Helmets from Linn County SAFE Kids

The helmets will be doled out due to a donation from the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club.


175 Emerson Elementary School children will have safer bike rides this summer thanks to the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club and Linn County SAFE Kids.

The Linn County SAFE Kids coalition, funded by the Cedar Rapids Police and Cedar Rapids Fire Department, is giving away the helmets on to Emerson students this Friday morning, where they will be properly fit for each student by SAFE volunteers. The helmet donation was made possible by a donation from the Marion Rotary Club.

There will be a safety presentation in assembly format at 9:00 a.m. followed by members of the Coalition properly fitting the students with bicycle helmets. Wearing a properly fitted helmet can reduce the possibility of injury by 88 percent.

The Linn County SAFE Kids Coalition received a $500 donation from the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club, who requested that the helmets be provided to Marion elementary students.
