Lions to Fight Dragons at State: What's Happening This Week in Marion
ALSO: The Funkdaddies are prepared to funk up Uptown Marion, and the Hobbit travels to meet a cinematic dragon of his own at the Marion library.

Here are five things to watch out for, learn about, or do for fun this week in Marion.Â

1. Linn-Mar Baseball Heads to State Linn-Mar upset a ranked Iowa City West High School squad last week to earn their way to the state tournament. The Lions (27-15) will play the Johnston Dragons (26-12) in the first round of the tournament at Principal Park, Des Moines, IA Wednesday, July 31st at noon.
2. Uptown Getdown: The Funkdaddies From the Uptown Marion calendar:
Join your family, friends and neighbors on Thursdays, August 1 - 22 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. in City Square Park in the heart of Uptown Marion. Marion Hy-Vee be the official food vendor on-site dishing up everything from chicken on a stick, hamburgers to pizza and chinese. Local sweet treat vendors will serve up dessert with favorites from The Kettel House Bakery, Take the Cake and The Wright Touch. T
FunkDaddies is a funk / soul / R & B band was formed with the purpose of bringing the best, funky dance music to the Midwest, performed by highly accomplished musicians. With their super-tight rhythm section and wide-ranging vocals, FunkDaddies delivers a dynamic, soulful show audiences will long remember.
3. Summer Movies: The Hobbit (PG-13)
July 31, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Marion Public LibraryÂ
Oh man, a showing of "the Hobbit" for free with popcorn in the Marion library? I totally am there!
4. Cool Down at the Thomas Park Splashpad
Hours of operation: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
You may want to wait until later in the week when it warms up a bit, but the Thomas Park Splashpad is a great place to take the kids for a good time.
5. Marion Farmers Market
It's a great time of the year for buying produce from the farmers market, and Marion has plenty of opportunities for you to come out and buy from local growers.
Wednesday... 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday... 8:00-11:30 a.m.
