Today's the final step for approving a new Marion Police station.
The Marion City Council will be voting tonight on whether to approve a $10 million construction contract for a new police station. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Marion City Hall, 1225 Sixth Ave.
The  station (to be exact) will offer three times the space, allowing for decades of growth that the station, and our fair city, will likely experience.

"I have eight detectives all in a little cubicle. I have six sergeants in an office that is two desks," said Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty. "I had to turn one of the garages into a evidence room."
The City of Marion's council approved the lease agreement for the land to be used for the construction on Tuesday. The council also held a public hearing for the lease agreement. Neither opposition nor support was raised.

Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn estimated the construction would begin this fall and is set to be completed by the end of 2013.
