Craig Hanson, the Cedar Rapids public works maintenance manager, issued a statement saying, "Significant flood has been noted on the upper end of the Indian Creek watershed in Marion."

This has prompted the closure of Cottage Grove Parkway SE.

Effective immediately, staff is closing Cottage Grove Parkway SE because of rising levels on Indian Creek.  Emergency flood protection is being installed along Cottage Grove Parkway SE starting at Sundland DR working to the east.  Door to door notifications have been made along Cottage Grove Parkway giving residence time to move cars.  Significant flood has been noted on the upper end of the Indian Creek watershed in Marion.  The northern part of Cedar Rapids has received 4 or more inches of rain at some locations in the last 24 hours.

Hanson said J Street SW is also closed along Prairie Creek.

J Street SW is closed at Prairie Creek because of flooding.  Traffic should seek alternate route.  If you do not know the depth of water, turn around, don’t drown
