The thing is, you already know what to get her, you just don’t know you know.
I know, it doesn’t make sense, but hold on.

Think back to days when you two window-shopped together down Seventh Avenue or watched TV together. Think about what she spends her money on and her strange hobby/passion/obsession, or the failed gifts you have given her in the past.
You might be a terrible listener. You might have a terrible memory. But, the great thing is, if you can think of one thing, just one thing that she would genuinely love to receive, then she’ll never know the struggle it was to come up with a good gift.
Think of a gift as an extension of her personality. Better yet, think of the parts of her life and personality that annoy you. Maybe she's really into consignment shops, such as , or antiquing at or browsing purses at .
The self-sacrifice involved when you spend time in shops that just aren't your thing will show that you care beyond superficial preferences.
Dig deep, and you will find the perfect present. For example, beyond having an obsession with Star Wars and medical dramas like ER and Grey’s Anatomy, my girlfriend has been systematically stealing my favorite sweater from me because she confidently asserts it looks better on her. Guess what she’s getting for Valentine’s Day (crossing my finger she doesn’t read Marion Patch on a daily basis)?
While this won’t knock her socks clear off her feet, I know she will love it. Sometimes, not screwing up in the gift department is good enough.
And this is the biggest point with gift giving: It’s great to blow someone away with a great gift, but a gift is nothing compared to the love you give your significant other on the 361 days of non-gift giving (excluding Christmas, her birthday, your anniversary and Valentine’s Day).
Any girl would take a compassionate companion over an amazing giver of gifts any day.
