Marion Police Assist When Truck Strikes 63-Year-Old Pedestrian
The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on Center Point Road just north of Blairs Ferry Road. Charles Slaughter, 63, of Hiawatha suffered serious injuries.

Marion police was among several agencies to respond to a motor vehicle accident Wednesday morning in which a truck struck a 63-year-old Hiawatha man who authorities say appears to have been walking in the roadway.
Charles Slaughter, 63, of Hiawatha, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Hiawatha police and fire were dispatched at about 8:21 a.m. this morning to Center Point Road just north of Blairs Ferry Road.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but preliminary information indicates Slaughter was struck while in the traveled portion of the roadway, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
