Marion Scrabble Club Looking for More Members

The club, now more than a year old, meets every Thursday at the Marion Public Library.

The members of the Marion Scrabble Club were thick into their games of Scrabble Thursday afternoon, as is their custom to do at their weekly meetings at the Marion Public Library from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. every Thursday.

The only problem?

There were only six members there this day, when the club has enough boards (provided by the Marion Library) to easily accommodate 24 players.

Pat Wascow, the club's founder with her daughter, Julie Basten, says she welcomes new players to come join the fun. New members can come play with one of the six game boards the Scrabble Club has available or BTOB (Bring Their Own Board) if they please.

Wascow said in the past the club has seen more members attend, from children to adults, and is always happy to welcome more. Also the Marion Club meets every week, unlike the Cedar Rapids Scrabble Club that only meets once a month.

For Wascow, Scrabble is more than just a game, it's a way of life.

"I brought her up on Scrabble," Wascow said, gesturing to her daughter. "I've been playing this game for over 60 years!"
