Marion Student's Art Work Recognized in Congressional Competition

A Marion High School student's work has been recognized in the annual Congressional Art Competition.

Rep. Bruce Braley's office announced Heidi Schmidt's drawing, "Jasmine" took second place for Iowa's First Congressional District in this year's competition, "An Artistic Discover."

The Congressional Art Competition, first held in 1982, is a nationwide high school arts competition sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives.

“This year, a record number of talented young artists submitted artwork and there were many wonderful submissions," Braley said in a statement.

Any high school student from Iowa’s First Congressional District was eligible to submit their artwork for consideration. The submissions were compiled into an internet gallery for public voting. This year, a record 88 pieces of art were submitted as part of the competition.
