Names Released of Officers Involved in Shooting That Left Cedar Rapids Woman Dead

Cedar Rapids officers Mitchell Magill and Adrienne Phelps were involved in a shooting that fatally wounded Desirae Daniel, 27, a Cedar Rapids woman with Marion ties.

Cedar Rapids Police have identified the names of two officers involved in a shooting that left a Cedar Rapids woman with Marion ties dead.

Officer Mitchell Magill and Officer Adrienne Phelps, both 4 year officers, were involved in vehicle chase that ended in the fatal shooting of Desirae Daniel, 27, after 2 a.m. on Dec. 4.

Authorities have not disclosed which officer fired the shots.

Magill and Phelps were on patrol and attempted to make a traffic stop at F Avenue and 19 St NW at about 2:29 a.m. The vehicle lead police on a chase before stopping, according to police. 

The lone occupant of the vehicle, Daniel, displayed a handgun and was subsequently shot by officers, according to police. She died from her injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital.

This case is still under investigation by the Division of the Criminal Investigation. The case will be forwarded to the Linn County Attorney Office for their review upon completion of the investigation.
