Native American Art: Sand Painting Workshop

The Marion Arts Council invites you to join them for a Native American Art: Sand Painting Workshop on Saturday, July 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lowe Park Arts and Environment Center, 4500 N. 10th Street in Marion. Join them as well-known artist David Garrison teaches the history of Sand Painting and then guides participants through making a unique work of art! Sand painting is a Native American art form that has quite an interesting history. The morning session covers the history of sand painting; afternoon session features hands-on sand painting. Annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser. $7 for adults, $5 for kids 6-18, Kids 5 and under are free. Bring the family and come out for ice cream, cake and pie. See the amazing balloon creations by Papa Balloon and enjoy musical entertainment by the Marion Big Band, as well as a tour of the Granger House and the carriage house.

The works from two of Eastern Iowa's best artists are on display at the Lowe Park Arts and environment Center Gallery. Mt. Vernon artists John Klopp and Cedar Rapids artist John Paul Schafer have been joined for this beautiful exhibit. Come walk the trails at Lowe Park and then enter the gallery for this summer exhibit. 

Join the Marion Arts Council and the artists on June 27th from 6:30-8:00 pm for the Artists Reception/Gallery Talk. 

Try Out Marion's New Dog Park

Have you tried Marion's dog park that opened this summer, yet? The K9 Acres Dog Park is located at Squaw Creek Park on 5200 Golf Course Road in Marion near Gardner Golf Course. 

It costs $6 to use the park per visit, with an honor system deposit box. Or, you can get an annual permit to use the parks at a cost of $27 per year, but with a $5 discount if the dog is spayed or neutered and another $5 discount if the dog passes a recall test. Permits may be purchased at Animal Control, 2109 N. Towne Lane NE. Phone number is (319) 286-5993. 

Longbranch's 45th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting

As I reported earlier, Longbranch Hotel is celebrating its 45th Anniversary this year, and you can join in on the celebration at a ribbon cutting this Friday at the Western themed hotel just across the Marion border.
