Old Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter to Be Demo'd within Next Month
The old animal shelter complex, which was leveled by the 2008 flood, that served Cedar Rapids and Marion is scheduled to be demolished between Feb. 13 and March 8.

The animal shelter serves Cedar Rapids and Marion. The complex at 1401 Cedar Bend Trail SW was destroyed by the 2008 flood. A new Animal Care & Control is located at 2109 N Towne Lane NE.
Active Thermal Concepts of Hiawatha had the winning bid of $103,469 for environmental abatement and to demolish the old structures, according to a statement from Cedar Rapids. The exact timing has not be set.

The demolition costs will be covered by Federal Emergency Management Agency funds.
Since the June 2008 flood, Cedar Rapids has demolished 1,084 residential structures, 539 accessory structures and 93 commercial structures, according to the city.
