Police Chief: No KKK Flyers in Marion

Flyers advertising the services of the Ku Klux Klan were found in Cedar Rapids, however, they have not made it to our city.

Marion officials have not seen any of the flyers touting the Ku Klux Klan that appeared a short distance away in Cedar Rapids, Marion's police chief told Patch on Tuesday.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette first reported the KKK flyers.

"This is just not a good subject," Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said. "It creates a lot of issues in the community."

Daugherty said he hasn't heard of any such activity in Marion, now or during the time he's spent on the force.

He's glad. He said an occurrence like this could create social problems in Marion.

A resident on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids first found a disturbing flyer in their neighborhood on Sunday, and then police received more reports on Monday.

The sheet showed a hooded Klan member pointing his index finger, with the following text below.

"Neighborhood Watch. You can sleep at night knowing the Klan is Awake! Troubles in your neighborhood? Contact the Traditionalist American Knights Today!!!"
