Update: Cedar Rapids Man Faces First-Degree Murder Charge in Death of 68-Year-Old Woman Near Marion

Cedar Rapids Police report the discovery of a dead female late Friday. Edward Cusic has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Anita Jean Labkon, 68.

Cedar Rapids Police say they have charged a man with first-degree murder in the death of a Cedar Rapids woman on Friday night.

Police took Edward Cusic, 44, into custody at the scene and charged with him with first-degree murder in the death of Anita Jean Labkon, 68, of Cedar Rapids, they said in a statement.

Police said they were called to a disturbance involving a weapon at 11:03 p.m. on Friday at 624 Old Marion Road NE in Cedar Rapids. When they arrived they found Labkon dead in the home.

The Gazette reports that it was a shooting.

Cusic is in custody at the Linn County Correctional Center. The case remains under investigation, but there will be no further information from police until Monday, they say.

Cedar Rapids Police found a dead female late Friday evening. They are calling it suspicious and an investigation is on going.

At approximately 11:03 p.m. on Friday, police were called to 624 Old Marion Road NE in reference to a disturbance with a weapon, Sgt. Nathan Juilfs said in an email to the media on Saturday morning.

Upon arrival officer found a female deceased inside the residence. The investigation is continuing and additional details may be released later, Juilfs said.
