Homeland Security Personnel on 'Official Business' Tuesday at Eastern Iowa Construction and Roofing in Marion

Law enforcement officers are at Eastern Iowa Construction and Roofing in Marion. A spokesperson for a federal prosecutor is calling it a 'homeland security' investigation.

Homeland Security personnel were on "official business" earlier today at the site of a Marion construction business.

They were at the scene at 2957 Highway 13 in Marion, said Peter Deegan, the public information officer for the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa. That is the location for Eastern Iowa Construction and Roofing.

As of 2 p.m., officers from the Linn County Sheriff's Department and law enforcement officers in unmarked cars were still working the scene.

Unknown law enforcement agents and sheriff's deputies were moving boxes from the office into a black, unmarked SUV.

Authorities at the scene would not allow access to the building.

Deegan said he could not say what or why they were investigating and he could not release any additional details. He said he did not expect the office to release additional details at a later point.

No one answered calls to Eastern Iowa Construction and Roofing and the phone was not accepting voicemail. Linn County Sheriff's Office referrred questions to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but an official has yet to return a message.

According to its website, Eastern Iowa Construction and Roofing specializes in residential, commercial and industrial roofing, as well as repairs, throughout Iowa. The company is headquartered in Marion and has a recycling center here. They also have offices throughout the state, including in Des Moines, Iowa City, Dubuque, Quad Cities and the Cedar Valley.

Law enforcement officers are on the scene at in Marion in what a spokesman for a federal prosecutor is calling a "Homeland Security" investigation.

The Gazette is first to report on the incident, which the newspaper describes as developing. The paper writes that officers from the Linn County Sheriff's Office and Marion Police were on the scene this morning and the entrance to the company is blocked off by a patrol car.

Officials are releasing few details thus far, and Gazette only adds that "police could be seen in areas near the main office and a nearby warehouse. Some appeared to be carrying bags."

The investigation is going on at 2957 Highway 13 in Marion.
