Sheriffs: Marion Man Flees Law Enforcement, Injures 2 in Crash

Andrew Jon Steepleton, 20, of Marion, faces several traffic-related charges.

A Marion man fleeing from authorities sent two to the hospital when his SUV collided with another vehicle on Saturday evening.

A 4-year-old girl, who was also in the second vehicle but not injured.

A news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Department states that at about 8:04 p.m. on Saturday, a deputy tried to stop a vehicle driven by Andrew Jon Steepleton, 20, of Marion, on Highway 13 at Linn Aire Avenue in Marion.

Steepleton refused to stop and chase ensued ending at Mount Vernon Road and Forrest Drive SE in Cedar Rapids, according to the sheriff's department.

That's when Steepleton's vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Courtney Moore, 26 of Center Point. David Hannen, 28, of Alburnett, and David’s daughter, Keira Hannen, 4, were passengers. Moore and David Hannen were taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Keira Hannen was uninjured, according to the sheriff's department.

Steepleton, who was the only person in his vehicle, took off on foot, according to authorities. A short time later Steepleton appeared in the lobby of the Linn County Jail and surrendered himself, according to authorities. 

He was not injured, but has been charged with multiple traffic charges related to the chase, according to the sheriff's department. The chase is still under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the traffic collision is under investigation by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
