Swamp Fox Festival Coming Up in One Month: Friday Thing to Know

This year's Marion Swamp Fox Festival will be based on the city's recent Blue Zones designation.

Want to be in the Swamp Fox Festival parade?

Well this is a bit of an early warning, but if you want to join in start gathering your friends together and start coming up with ideas you have about a month to do it. The parade submission form says that you must submit to join the parade by August 21. The festival will be held this year on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7.

This year's festival will be Blue Zone themed. From the City website:

Save the date… the annual celebration of Marion’s heritage will take place September 6-7 this year and once again promises to include a variety of family-friendly activities.

The theme for this year’s festival is Blue Acres: Marion…It's the Place to Be. The theme celebrates Marion’s designation as a Blue Zones Project™ demonstration site in 2014 and a new exhibit coming to the Marion Heritage Center featuring the agricultural roots of the region. Parade entries can either be health/fitness or agriculture related.

So start brainstorming those float ideas. I think an American Gothic sculpture with the famous couple in great shape and wearing workout clothes would be what I would make if I was on a float committee. What, don't laugh. Just use my idea, it will totally win!

Here's some of our coverage from last year's festival.
