Wisconsin Teacher May Serve 186 Years for Alleged Sexual Relationship With Marion Teen

In an unfolding case out of Mayville, WI, 43-year-old teacher Shannon Cardinal faces multiple charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a minor from Marion.

Wisconsin teacher Shannon Cardinal, 43, has been arrested on multiple charges today for an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old Marion boy.

She appeared in court for the first time today and was released on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, she faces up to 186 years in prison. The charges include six counts of sexual assault and six counts of child enticement. 

The Mayville, WI high school teacher began her alleged relationship with the boy when he was 16, according to a report from Fox 11 in Milwaukee.

There is no evidence or information that any inappropriate contact took place on or near school grounds, according to the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department.

Cardinal has been on paid adminstrative leave since Monday.

According to Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty, the first known sexual encounter started in Marion, but was continued at a residence in Mayville, where the investigation is ongoing.

The Fond du Lac District Attorney did not immediately respond to contact from Marion Patch.
