What are some events happening this weekend in Marion and Cedar Rapids? I'll list a few below. Feel free to add more events in comments if I miss them.

Friday

Philip's Building Groundbreaking, [Via Marion Chamber of Commerce]

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this Friday, April 12 at 5:00 p.m. for the new Philip’s Building to be located at 1317 7th Avenue in Uptown Marion. An open house will immediately follow the ceremony at the current location of Philip’s Diamond Shop & Design Center at 1127 7th Avenue. Chamber Ambassadors will be assisting with this event and the public is invited to attend. 

The new $2.6 million Philip’s Building will be located on the eastern end of the Uptown Marion business district. This 18,000 sq. ft. building will be home to Philip’s Diamond Shop & Design Center and Urban_Vintage Hair Studio, currently located at 525 11th Street in Uptown Marion.

These four unique and different art stores surround the park in uptown Marion's historic shopping district and are all owned by women that sell their art in their stores - as well as the art of other local artists. 

Special Reading at the Granger House (via Uptown Marion)

April 13th, 2013 from 1:30pm to 6:00pm

Join us at the Granger House THIS Saturday at 1:30 pm when Marion resident and author, Anneliese Tisdale, will be reading selections from her book, Christmas Trees Lit the Sky, about growing up during WW II in Nazi Germany. Hers is a story of war & death, of fear & deprivation, of the inventiveness of children who want to dance and wear new clothes but instead have childhoods filled with bandages and bombs. This is one program you do NOT want to miss!! Suitable for teens and adults. Admission: $5/adults, $2/students under 18, and FREE for members.

The Granger House is located at 970 10th Street in Uptown Marion.

Cinderella (Cedar Rapids, via Cultural Corridor)

Ray Blue Jazz Quintet (via Uptown Marion)

April 13th, 2013 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm

The Ray Blue Jazz Quartet will be appearing at Campbell Steele Gallery from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M. on April 13th, inaugurating the gallery’s new Saturday Jazz series --- part of the live performance series, ‘Music in the MUD’.

Doors open at 6 P.M., wine, beer, fruit juice, Italian soda, sparkling water and hors d’oeuvres are available at the Backstage Wine Bar. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling 319-373-9211.

Eliza Gilkyson, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky come together as Red Horse, a collaborative project from three of the most revered songwriters in folk music. The convergence of these three talents is a folk music fan’s dream come true.
