What Marion Road Construction Projects are Ahead in 2013?

Phase two of the Central Corridor Project, parking around Marion's Vernon Elementary, Blairs Ferry Road reconstruction, and no stop sign near Starry Elementary are among the items.

Roads aren't the most exciting news, but they are something we use every day.

On that note, there's a number of road projects on deck in Marion.

First up, there's a hearing for public input on the Marion Engineering Department's 2013-14 budget for design and construction of numerous projects.

Also, the traffic advisory committee recommended not making changes near Starry Elementary. The committee had been asked to consider making 14th Street and C Avenue a four-way stop. The intersection is at the corner of Starry Elementary playground.

"Students cross at this intersection and a stop sign in that location may make for a safer crossing route for students," according to the report.

Around Vernon Middle, the committee has recommended:

  • “No Parking” on the west side 13th Street from 3rd Avenue to 4th Avenue.
  • A stop sign north bound on 13th Street at 4th Avenue.
  • Reject the suggestion of a one way on 4th Avenue or the addition of yellow painted curbs.

Blairs Ferry Road reconstruction from Lindale Drive to Marion Boulevard is slated to include three lanes of concrete pavement with street lights and landscaping. The cost is a $1.9 million.
