Winter Storm Saturn: A Winter Storm Warning Declared in Linn County. 9-10 Inches of Snow Possible From Monday to Tuesday

The main section of snow in this winter storm, dubbed Saturn, is predicted by the National Weather Service to hit north of Highway 30, with lower amounts of snow to the south.


The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has declared a winter storm warning for Linn County and other counties north of Highway 30 that will be in effect from 6 p.m. Monday until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday:

This is all a part of a large system dubbed Winter Storm Saturn by the Weather Channel that is predicted to nail Northern Iowa and Minnesota the next two days.

.AN INTENSE WINTER STORM SYSTEM WILL TRACK ACROSS THE MIDWEST TONIGHT AND TUESDAY. THE STORM WILL PRODUCE A PROLONGED PERIOD OF SNOW WHICH WILL FALL AT HEAVY RATES AT TIMES. AN INITIAL ROUND OF LIGHT SNOW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA THIS MORNING...FOLLOWED BY A BREAK IN THE PRECIPITATION THIS AFTERNOON. THE HEAVIEST OF THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION TONIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED MAINLY ALONG AND NORTH OF HIGHWAY 30 WITH LESSER AMOUNTS TO THE SOUTH. INCREASING WINDS TUESDAY AFTERNOON MAY RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS...EVEN WHERE SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE LIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 9 TO 11 INCHES.

* WINDS...EAST 10 TO 20 MPH...BECOMING LIGHT TONIGHT. WINDS TURNING TO THE NORTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH TUESDAY AFTERNOON

VISIBILITIES...REDUCED TO LESS THAN ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES. * TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 20S.

* IMPACTS...SNOW AND THEN DRIFTING SNOW WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DUE TO SNOW COVERED ROADWAYS AND POOR VISIBILITY.
