Elderly Woman Dies in Marion Head-on Collision

A woman in her 80s died in a car accident yesterday afternoon.

An elderly woman died on Wednesday afternoon in Marion from a head-on collision.

Marion police say the woman was struck by a SUV after she drifted into oncoming traffic on a bridge at 3:30 p.m., on Alburnett Road, according to a story from the Gazette.

The woman, who was in her 80s, died shortly after being brought to St. Luke's Hospital.

The driver of the SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center.

Marion Police Detective Lance Miller told the Gazette that the elderly woman may have had a medical condition that lead to her completely losing control of her vehicle.

However, police won't know for sure until the autopsy is completed, which may take some time.
